Stewart qualifies for public funds, opens HQ for gov race

NEW BRITAIN — Republican Erin Stewart, the former mayor of New Britain, said the state has approved her campaign for public financing, which is now fully operating statewide.

Stewart said the State Elections Enforcement Commission approved her application for the Citizens’ Election Program. The approval means her campaign is fully funded for the rest of the governor’s race. She also announced the opening of a new statewide headquarters and the hiring of a full political team ahead of the Connecticut Republican Convention in May.

“We are fully operational and ready to go,” Stewart said. “We are in this race to win, and we have the resources, the HQ and the team to prove it. I am beyond thrilled that, on our first try, the SEEC approved our application for the grant — the earliest ever submitted. I am incredibly thankful to our nearly 3,000 donors and my superb treasury team who made this happen in record time.”

She said her campaign is focused on winning the November election.

“We’re building a movement like no other, ready to lift up Connecticut Republicans, ready to win, and ready to defeat Ned Lamont or Josh Elliott this November,” Stewart said. “I am confident that we’re going to win this race and make history here in Connecticut.”

The Erin for Connecticut headquarters is at 1 Liberty Square in New Britain.

Campaign senior leadership includes John Healey as general consultant and senior adviser, Morgan Wilson as senior adviser, Brock Weber as campaign manager, Valerie Marino as campaign treasurer and Max Turgeon as deputy treasurer.

The campaign has also hired a communications director, a headquarters manager, a statewide political director and regional political directors for each of Connecticut’s five congressional districts.
